Junior Analytics Analyst

Unknown Employer

full time Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya Posted 1 month ago

We are looking for a Junior Analytics Analyst to help us investigate the data behind commercial decisions for a regional financial client. In this role, you will help us verify whether the numbers in a financial case actually match the reality of the business.

About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.

The Role This position is a direct entry into the world of commercial due diligence and financial analysis. You will work in a fully remote environment, collaborating closely with our principals to look at data sets and see what they reveal about business performance. Much of the work involves looking at how a regional financial institution manages its portfolio and where the underlying risks might be hidden. We do not value long hours for their own sake: we value accuracy, a critical eye, and the ability to find the flaw in a spreadsheet. Because we are a small firm, you will see the full scope of a project rather than just a narrow slice of a report.

What You Will Be Doing Cleaning and organizing large sets of raw data from various sources to ensure they are ready for analysis. Building and maintaining financial models in Excel to test different scenarios and pricing structures. Cross checking internal reports against external data to find inconsistencies or overly optimistic assumptions. Creating clear tables and charts that communicate findings without using unnecessary jargon or filler. Participating in internal team calls to discuss the logic behind a client's current financial strategy. Assisting in the preparation of memos that detail where capital is trapped or where value is being lost. Tracking the results of implemented changes to see if they perform as predicted during the analysis phase. Maintaining organized documentation of all data sources and calculations for audit purposes.

What You Bring A university degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a similar field that requires logical thinking. High comfort with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use formulas like VLOOKUP and pivot tables effectively. A natural tendency to ask why when presented with a number that looks too good to be true. Strong attention to detail, especially when working with repetitive data entry or complex calculations. The ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage your own schedule to meet project deadlines. Clear written communication skills for explaining technical findings in plain English. A basic understanding of how a P&L statement works and how different business units interact financially. Willingness to learn new analytical methods and adapt to the specific needs of different client sectors.

What We Offer A fully remote working arrangement that allows you to work from your own environment. Direct access to senior principals who will teach you the mechanics of high stakes financial advisory. A culture that values evidence and logic over seniority or internal politics. Competitive pay that is attractive for an entry level role in the current market. Exposure to a wide range of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services. A professional environment where you are judged by the quality of your work, not by face time. Training in disciplined financial modeling and professional skepticism.

At Blue Oak, we believe that the best advice comes from a place of independence and discipline. We take pride in telling our clients the truth, even when it is uncomfortable or goes against the prevailing corporate narrative. By joining us as a Junior Analytics Analyst, you will be part of a team that prioritizes clarity and execution over theoretical models. We look for people who are ready to look past the surface and help us find the real economic drivers of a business.
