Role Description The Advocate is a full-time, on-site role based in Mombasa County, Kenya. This role focuses on supporting learners and families by listening to their concerns, helping them understand available school resources, and guiding them through school policies and procedures. The Advocate will meet regularly with learners, parents, and staff to identify challenges, document issues, and propose practical solutions that promote fairness and equity. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate case records, preparing reports, and following up on agreed action plans. The Advocate will collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address academic, behavioral, or social concerns, and may facilitate meetings, workshops, or information sessions to build awareness of student rights and support services. The role also includes monitoring the implementation of support plans and providing feedback to leadership on trends and areas for improvement. Qualifications
Strong advocacy and communication skills, including active listening, clear spoken and written communication, and the ability to explain complex information in accessible language. Experience working directly with learners, parents, or community members in an educational, social services, or youth-focused setting. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion, maintain detailed records, and handle multiple cases or tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated conflict resolution, mediation, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on fairness, respect, and constructive dialogue. Familiarity with educational environments, student support services, and basic safeguarding and child protection principles. Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in Mombasa County and beyond. Comfort using basic office and communication tools (such as email, word processing, and spreadsheets) to document cases and prepare reports. Diploma or degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Community Development, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience. Ability to work on-site full time, maintain professional boundaries, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment. Fluency in English; proficiency in Swahili or local languages is an added advantage.
