Elgeyo Marakwet County covers a total area of 3029.9 km2. It borders West Pokot County to the North, Baringo County to the East, Trans Nzoia County to the Northwest and Uasin Gishu County to the West. The county is divided into three topographic zones namely: The Highlands, Kerio Valley and The Escarpment: all of them separated by the conspicuous Elgeyo Escarpment. The Highlands constitutes 49 percent of the countys area and is densely populated due to its endowment with fertile soils and reliable rainfall.The Escarpment and the Kerio Valley make up 11percent and 40 percent respectively. There is a marked variation in amount of rainfall in the three zones; The Highlands receive between 1200mm and 1500mm per annum while The Escarpment and the Kerio Valley receives rainfall ranging between 1000mm to 1400mm per annum. In altitude, the Highland plateau rises from an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level on the Metkei Ridges in the South to 3350 metres above sea level on the Cherangany Hills to the North Job Description Salary Scale: Ksh.34,420 x 1,300- 35,720 x 1,380 -37,100 x 1,390 - 38,490 x 1,460– 39,950 x 1,470- 41,420 x 1,470 - 42,890 x 1,520- 44,410 x 1,710 - 46,120p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: - Working with communities to identify and mobilize local resources for the implementation of development projects; Developing and maintaining database of gender disaggregated data, orphans and vulnerable children, elderly Persons and people with disabilities; Collecting data on gender mainstreaming,socio-economic empowerment ,female genital mutilation and sexual and gender-based violence programs and projects; counseling victims of Gender Based Violence guiding communities develop Community Action Plans(CAPs);liasing with local communities and other development agencies in implementing community development programmes; identifying self help groups and community based organizations for registration; collecting social development related data for planning; guiding communities and self-help groups to identify their social economic needs and mobilizing communities to implement their development projects and mainstreaming disability in programmes and projects. Requirements & Qualifications For appointment to this grade, an applicant MUST have: - Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Project Development/ Management, Disability Studies, Counselling, Gender Studies, Gender and development, Business Administration/ Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution
