Amref International University (AMIU) was established in 2017 as a Premier Pan African University of health sciences fully owned by Amref health Africa. AMIU is founded on the experience and intellect of Amref Health Africa, which is reputed with over 60 years of quality and innovative public and community health interventions in over 30 countries in Africa. With this work, the need to train health workers in communities was evident and the response was short tenure training courses by the Amref Training Centre (AITC) and later the Directorate of Capacity Building (DCB), the predecessor of AMIU. These Amref training programmes run for over 40 years have produced alumni spread throughout the world who have created the name recognition, reputation and brand that Amref is today. It was then evident that there was a need to train people who would occupy higher levels thus influence health policy, regulation and legislation. The University was thus established. Job Purpose To develop, manage and monitor implementation of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences proggrammes and related activities in the university. These include, but are not limited to academic leadership, teaching and training, curriculum development and review; research and innovation; grant making for research and nursing programs; publication and dissemination of knowledge products; supervision of graduate students and academic administration. The position holders adhere to quality assurance and accreditation requirements by the relevant regulatory bodies. Duties and responsibilities Teaching and Learning Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in the assigned area of expertise/teaching.  Develop and update teaching materials, including digital content.  Assess and grade students' assignments, exams, and projects while providing constructive feedback.  Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in their academic projects and research or any other areas.  Apply and utilize modern teaching methods, including e-learning tools and student centered approaches.  Engage in all departmental teaching activities including; timetabling, course-loading and moderation of exams, supervision and marking of exams and entry.  Academic leadership of Departmental programs Curriculum Development  Participate in designing and review of course curricula to align with academic standards and market needs. Identify programs that can be developed by the department and spearhead curriculum development. Research, Innovation and Scholarship Conduct individual or collaborative research in the field of expertise for personal and departmental growth.  Continuously publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, seminars or conferences. Identify and participate in seeking research grants and other funding opportunities to support academic projects.  Identify and engage in fund-raising activities in the department Academic Administration Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other institutional activities.  Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base. Providing support to students and other colleagues Contribute to program accreditation processes and quality assurance systems. Handle administrative responsibilities, such as student advising and exam coordination. Student research work/project /thesis/dissertation supervision and mentoring Supervise student and junior staff research activities. Community Engagement and Professional Development Collaborate with external organizations, industries, and the community to enhance knowledge sharing.  Engage in professional development activities, such as attending workshops, seminars, and conferences.  Represent the institution in public forums, professional bodies, and academic networks. Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field. Marketing Participate in university and departmental marketing activities Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department/and/or line supervisor on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, from time to time including but not limited to: Work as part of the wider team to support other people when called upon.  Support the University and its leadership Continue with individual personal development activities Engage actively in the performance review process Promote a positive working environment for everyone Qualifications PhD in Nursing with 3 years of experience in academia or industry with relevant publication points Master of Science in Nursing – Medical and Surgical Nursing Evidence of participation in research activities.  Evidence of having supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion. Must hold a valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a team  Demonstrate a high level of integrity. Experience At least 3 years post-PhD experience in teaching at the university level in nursing training At least 2 years’ experience in clinical practice Experience in curriculum development and evaluation Experience in supporting a virtual learning environment Technical and Soft Skills Facilitation skills Interpersonal skills  Report writing skills IT skills Integrity, commitment, and respect for diversity Teamwork and collaboration  Maturity Creativity
