Mission Statement: "Tenwek Hospital is a Christian community committed to excellence in compassionate healthcare, spiritual ministry, and training for service to the glory of God." The hospital was founded in 1937 by missionaries from World Gospel Mission and has since grown to be a leading teaching and referral hospital in the region and one of the largest mission hospitals in Africa. It is a non-profit faith-based organization, a ministry of Africa Gospel Church and in partnership with World Gospel Mission. It has a capacity of 300 beds and offers a wide-range of quality and affordable primary and specialized healthcare services. Through partnerships with various organizations, long term and visiting physicians (Facilitated through Samaritan’s Purse), provide Tenwek patients with expertise in hospital care, out-patient treatment (Supported through USAID), and HIV/AIDS care through the PEPFAR program. Tenwek is also supported by Friends of Tenwek (FOT), a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to developing key relationships and resources that help Tenwek fulfill its mission. FOT has raised funds through various organizations and private donors to support the projects and goals of Tenwek Hospital in adition to keeping those who have visited Tenwek in the past informed and involved with what's happening at Tenwek today. We work to meet the needs of the whole person, as reflected in the Hospital's mission statement."Job Purpose The jobholder is responsible for overseeing and coordinating nursing activities within inpatient wards and critical care units to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in line with AGC - Tenwek policy, hospital regulations, and the standards set by the Nursing Council of Kenya Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks Oversee inpatient care, set work schedules, coordinate meetings, and make personnel decisions in the Inpatient Department. Coordinate nursing activities through Unit In-Charges, ensuring smooth operations. Recruit, train, and mentor nurses, and ensure accurate departmental records. Apply nursing best practices and emerging theories to care delivery. Implement government and hospital guidelines for patient safety and compliance. Balance staff deployment across inpatient wards to optimize patient care. Ensure all nurses hold valid practice licenses and maintain updated records. Represent Nursing Services Lead in meetings and delegated duties when required. Supervise daily operations, performance management, and staff professional growth. Drive corporate initiatives such as audits, QMS, risk management, and compliance with policies. Develop and manage inpatient departmental budgets and work plans. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications & Experience Higher Diploma in Nursing or related field. A bachelor’s degree in nursing is an added advantage. Valid registration and license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). Leadership training is an added advantage. At least 3 years of progressive experience in a similar role, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership/supervisory position.
