Agile Minds Africa is a privacy-first AI security technology company headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. We build and operate edge AI systems that help businesses reduce theft and loss without using facial recognition or biometric identification. We have active pilots running across multiple sites with real theft detection happening through existing edge devices. We are now building a production-grade multi-modal sensing layer using wide-area WiFi sensing, mmWave radar, and Thermal IR. We are looking for a Sensor Engineer to own this system end-to-end.

Why This Role Exists

We already have working hardware partnerships, an architecture decision record, and an open-source CSI mesh running across test environments. What we need now is an engineer who can take all of that and ship a deployable, production-grade sensing system into a real environment. This is not a research-only role. You will become the technical owner of the sensing stack. If you successfully ship the pilot, you will help scale the system and eventually build the team underneath you.

What You Will Own mmWave Radar Integration Bring up commercial mmWave radar evaluation hardware and capture raw ADC data Build DSP pipelines including Range-Doppler-Azimuth, CFAR, and Tracking ML Classifier Development Architect, train, and deploy CNN-based radar object classifiers targeting 90%+ accuracy on weapon classes Implement proper train-by-subject validation methodologies Edge Deployment Deploy inference pipelines to edge AI compute platforms Achieve real-time inference, sub-50ms latency, and autonomous boot reliability Sensor Fusion Integrate radar output, WiFi CSI mesh, and Thermal IR sensing Develop fusion logic at the aggregation layer Pilot Deployment Mount, calibrate, and validate systems in real environments Reduce false positives to under 0.5 per hour and iterate rapidly based on field performance Technical Leadership Act as the technical escalation point with clients Diagnose and explain detection behaviour and false positives clearly to non-technical stakeholders Requirements 5+ years of production-level RF or radar engineering experience (automotive radar, defense sensing, or industrial mmWave systems) Deep hands-on experience with commercial mmWave radar SDKs Strong DSP implementation experience Modern ML deployment skills: PyTorch, ONNX, CNN architectures Embedded and edge AI deployment experience Strong systems-level debugging skills across hardware and software stacks Ability to operate independently in a high-ownership environment Strong Advantages WiFi CSI or wireless sensing experience Multi-modal fusion experience Experience shipping hardware-software systems into commercial deployment Familiarity with near-field MIMO-SAR imaging or concealed-object detection research IEEE radar or sensing publications What We Are Not Looking For Research-only profiles with no production deployments Pure ML engineers without RF or hardware intuition Pure RF engineers with no modern ML experience Why Join Us?
