Alupe University College (AUC), which is a Constituent College of Moi University, is one of the newest University Colleges in the Country. It was established through the Alupe Legal Order Gazette Notice No 163 of 24th July 2015. Its Council was constituted vide special gazette notice No.136 of 7th November 2016. It was started following a request by the then Busia North community to the then President of Kenya H.E Hon Mwai Kibaki when he visited the area on 18th September 2007. Subsequently it started as the Alupe Campus of Moi University in 2008. The University College has 200 acres of land in Busia County. It is located 7 kilometres from Busia town on the Busia-Malaba Road. It is 23 kilometres from Malaba town. It is situated in Teso South constituency of Busia County and is the only Public University in the Busia County. It neighbours Uganda and therefore will expand the international student exchange programs including cross border training and research in the East African region. It will work with the neighbouring KEMRI, KALRO and LBDA scientists in teaching, research and service provision to the Kenyan population and in the region. For appointment to this position/grade a candidate must have: – Holder of a PhD in Home Economics specializing in Clothing and Textile from a recognized university. A Master’s degree in Home Economics (Clothing and Textile) from a recognized university; At least three (3) years teaching/research experience at the university level as a Tutorial Fellow/Assistant Lecturer; Must have a minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers; Be registered with a relevant professional body (where applicable); Proficiency in computer applications. Key Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities at this level; – Teach in specialized areas like Nutrition, Fashion and textiles, Family Studies or Interior Design. Initiate and lead original research projects, seeking external funding and publishing in refereed journals. Review and update Home Science degree to align with current industry trends and Commission for University Education (CUE) standards. Serve in administrative positions or member of university committees as directed from time to time. Provide professional consultancy or community service related to home economics and family welfare.
