Role Summary

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking a Project Coordination Officer to support the delivery of high-profile strategic initiatives, including Evidence for AI in Health (EVAH), INSPIRE 2.0, and the ANTENNA training hubs. Based in Nairobi, this role operates at the intersection of research, policy engagement, and digital platform delivery. The successful candidate will provide administrative, logistical, and communication coordination to ensure project milestones are met and synergies are strengthened across the Data Science Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Implementation: Coordinate annual workplans and activity schedules to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring consistent information flow and alignment across projects.
  • Monitoring and Tracking: Track project deliverables, deadlines, and interdependencies across various workstreams.
  • Event and Meeting Coordination: Support the organization of workshops, review panels, and exchange visits, including the preparation of agendas and action trackers.
  • Operational Support: Maintain documentation repositories, manage project calendars, and support procurement, consultant onboarding, and travel logistics.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Prepare progress updates and internal briefs, ensuring all records are accurate for audit and compliance purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project coordination or management, preferably within research or health programs.
  • Proven ability to coordinate technical, policy, and administrative stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded project environments (e.g., Wellcome, Gates, DFID, NIH) and their reporting/compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, including Gantt charts and workplan trackers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience supporting multi-country or consortium-based projects.
  • Exposure to digital health, AI, data science, or innovation programs in African contexts.
  • Experience supporting peer-review processes or large-scale convenings.
